The Tiing Hotel by Nic Brunsdon + MANGUNING
The location of Tiing Hotel which is on the North coast of Bali with tourism developments that have not been as beautiful as the southern region of Bali provides its challenges to this project. Expected to be a destination for tourists who come to the Tejakula region, Buleleng, this hotel was designed by Nic Brunsdon in collaboration with a local studio, Manguning with 14 rooms that have a background of sea views in front of it.

When looking at the surroundings of this hotel, tourists will be given a different experience than in other regions of the island. Offering sea and tranquility away from the crowds of tourists in other areas, the hotel has a palette of simple materials originating in the region, such as bamboo which is the most commonly used building material in Bali thus giving the impression of the local context in the building.

In addition to bamboo, the use of concrete materials creates smooth walls with textured wooden screens and the use of bamboo as a shape for concrete provides a toothed texture that blends with the natural environment.
(each room is separated by a concrete wall that allows privacy to be maintained)
According to Brunsdon, "The materiality of the project aims to work in local contexts, construction techniques, resources, and climate – rugged regionalism". Because it is in a tropical climate, a clean finish will require a lot of care, so the use of weather-resistant materials can improve the character of architecture and place, which is expressed through the texture and shape of bamboo as impressions and motifs in this building.

On each block containing two suite rooms, one on the ground floor and the other on top, all rooms at the hotel have a private pool, some facing north and others facing south. And in each room, there is a skylight that allows sunlight into the room that can give more energy to visitors.
