Casa Patios de Petals with Its Curved Walls, Bloom Like a Flower

Casa "patios de petals" designed by Sandra Micaela Casinha Atelier, functions as a small family residence in the Gondomar area, Porto, Portugal. The design of this residence is inspired by flower petals that bloom with dynamic and beautiful shapes; this represents the client who said, "Flowers are all the words the earth says."

In this design, a dynamic curve shape is presented in almost every corner of this house, with an organic shape on the structure's walls resulting in interior spaces, openings, and terraces surrounded like flower petals. To strengthen this dynamic and organic shape, the design team limited the use of three materials, namely white paint on the walls and aluminum and glass at each opening; this makes this house seem "growing" with many expressions.

As already mentioned, inside the "flower," this curved wall creates transitions that lead to different spaces and presents interconnected "open spaces," This shape also brings different privacy. The openness of this space is also reinforced by the presence of openings in almost all spaces on the ground floor; this is also done with the same goal: to highlight the main actor: organic white volume.

While on the upper floor, the organic white-volume arches also function as a divider for a more private space. In this house, the Staircase determines the heart of the house, and this is where continuity is felt from one floor to another, from the sinuous structural walls. Plus, the selection of decorations and furniture that uses pastel and "raw" color palettes adds the impression of serenity in the place, casual comfort, natural materials, and simplicity.
