According to Sally Cap, the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, MPavilion has done a fantastic job of reminding us that architecture is inextricably woven into the fabric of Melbourne. Seeing, feeling, and admiring the work of world-renowned architect Tadao Ando is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and it makes sense that Melburnians should enjoy this incredible MPavilion for another year.

Tadao Ando projects the living nature of the site like a blank canvas that is successfully imagined as an architecture of emptiness. Located in Queen Victoria Gardens with a canopy covered with aluminum material stretching 14.4 meters. Supported by a central column, this focal point has a concrete wall with varying heights to create a part of the shaded environment area. The design is visually famous for its distinctive geometric shape that appears in harmony with the surrounding natural landscape and the selection of the right use of concrete material is applied.

The building plan consists of two offset squares, creating two entrances on opposite sides. The walls are punctured by two 17-metre-long slits cut to visually connect the pavilion to the park and skyline. The MPavilion design features a reflective pool reflecting sunlight onto the canopy and the endless sky above the pavilion. Openings on the south and north walls provide views of Melbourne and the surrounding green spaces. The MPavilion program for summer 2024 is planned to run from November to March 2025. It invites a wide range of public participation in the design, art and architecture fields, showcasing new talent and innovative works related to the site. Artists, designers, architects, and collaborators are invited to participate and contribute their ideas.

It is one of the most important architectural events held annually in Melbourne, Australia. The MPavilion is similar to the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion in London, where world-renowned architects are honored to design it. The tenth edition, which was actually held in 2023, was designed by Tadao Ando and opened in 2023 with free admission for all visitors; before the announcement of the extension, it was originally opened to the public on November 16, 2023, and was scheduled to end on March 28, 2024. However, due to the announcement of the extension until March 2025, visitors can still enjoy it.
