Set on 35 acres of hilly terrain, Hudson Valley Residents is a vacation home that benefits from direct views of the mountains. The house stretches horizontally with a north-south orientation. Nestled amongst the hills and mostly farmland of the village, the entrance to Hudson Valley Residents is via a winding road.

The exterior materials are cedar-clad walls that are custom stained and finished to contrast with the existing surroundings. A vertical rhythm of 13-foot glass windows on the facade provides transparency between the indoor and outdoor spaces.

The combination of glass panels and cedar walls by HGX Design creates a warm feel at night when the weather outside is cooler. During the day, daylight combines with the custom-painted wooden floors to bring a cool accent to the interior. Through wide openings and with a north-south orientation, the building constantly receives morning sunlight from the east and sunset in the west.

Each room is only 28 feet wide, with 11.5-foot ceilings connected by corridors. The interior includes a master suite at one end of the building and a series of guest accommodations at the other.

The dining room, kitchen, and living room are in the center of the building as the center of family activities. Meanwhile, the basement accommodates additional functions such as an exercise room, media room, and garage.

The separation of space zoning uses natural lighting in the morning and afternoon, along with artificial lighting at night that focuses more on artwork, walls, and activity centers in the house. At the entrance of the building, the light radiates warmly to welcome guests. The lighting level decreases in the spaces between the living rooms to create a sense of separation from the brighter spaces. In the main living area, selected artworks from private collections and interactive decor elements are strategically positioned, creating an ambiance that feels like an art gallery at night.
