The Interior of Baovan Restaurant with Sunset Experience on the Beach

January 8, 2024

Starting from the desire to open the first bao restaurant in Valencia, Nacho and his colleagues have traveled around Asia, America, and Africa. From that experience came an idea to create a "Baovan" inspired by the lifestyle of surfing and exploring. Clap Studio, an architectural firm from Spain, was chosen to execute his dream of interior design that applies elements of the sea and beach.

The atmosphere of the beach has not been able to be felt from outside the building. Visitors will pass through the entrance into a green room. This veranda is considered forest-like, with a ceiling full of a long mane of cotton rope twisted like vines in the forest. The length of the ropes is made differently and adjusted to the curved shape on the wall. In this room, there are two tables, two chairs, and additional seats that blend into the wall.

The interior design of this restaurant is made modern with a color block theme where each room is given a different color from other rooms. The application of this color is not only on the elements of the floor, walls, and ceiling but also on the entire furniture and decoration. So that visitors get a different experience in each space. After crossing the green area, visitors will enter a room with a "beach" atmosphere. The right is peach-like beach sand, and the left is blue-like seawater. This room shows two different colors that take us as if in and out of the water.

On the blue side, to amplify the visuals of the sea, Clap Studio displays a sunset from a semicircular screen with special light programmed to change over time, such as sunlight at sunset. Under the screen is a checkered wall motif arranged like a mosaic. Another uniqueness that is trying to be presented is the ceiling with undulating textile panels shaped like rolling clouds that bring a magical atmosphere to the interior that reflects the light of the sunset constantly moving.

"Our goal was to transport the user to a beach from where to watch the sunset and enjoy some handmade baos, so we created a whole experience around it," Clap Studio said.

Turning to the peach side, there is a bar for ordering menus, and beside it is a set the table for two people and four people. A circular window connects the green space and the peach space. Some furniture, windows, and lamp installations are inspired by the shape of bao bread, which is a mainstay menu in this restaurant. All chairs are specially designed with a backrest shape that represents the shape of an open bao bun.

Visitors can relax, pamper their eyes with a unique atmosphere, and even capture photos. Clap Studio managed to design the interior of Baovan with its own identity, like being on the beach.
