A Unique Interplay of Tilted, Curved, and Broken Forms

A house on a corner of a suburban plot was played out within three gestures; tilted, curved, and broken. It presents an interplay of various forms in its appearance.

Named the “House within Three Gestures” , the design was born from the irregular site’s condition which encouraged the curve of the exterior wall, the split of the main living spaces into parts, and the tilt of the roof. The house’s volume is a presentation of two figures—a slender spire and a tilted half-circle.

All the living spaces are arranged inside this tilted half-circle volume while the laundry room is arranged in the slender spire. Half of the exterior wall was curved out while the other was disoriented with steep angles, resulting in an even lineup display of openings reflecting the number of rooms inside it. These disoriented walls extend to the interior which creates a winding group of walls. It results in the existence of a curving hall and a series of winding walls inside the house which provides easy circulation.

The tilted roof creates a similar tilted concrete ceiling inside the house which creates a unique spatial experience inside the house. On the inside, the materials are aligned concisely with white walls. The wooden material extends to the key edges which are accented with stripes of dark wood.

The interplay of contrasting colors; white, black, and blue adorn the house’s exterior and interior. Thanks to the white shade, the quiet and calm atmosphere floods the house’s interior. This white shade also perfectly matched the wooden floor and the concrete ceiling. To further enhance the house’s beauty, a slight touch of pink was added to the triangular chimney which undoubtedly matched with exterior color. From the distinguished method of playing out the house in three gestures, this house appears as a unique work of art in the middle of a gray suburban area.
