Kaishin No Ichigeki, A Ramen Restaurant That Brings Feelings to the World of Video Games
January 11, 2024

Japan-based architectural firm 07Beach has created a unique, and new ramen dining room using affordable materials, such as white ceramics, wood, cement, and carpets. His client only tells the name of the ramen shop as his main identity "Kaishin No Ichigeki." The name of this restaurant was adopted from the slogan of role-playing games (RPGs). Usually, video games display pixelated and dot-like initial images. The initial look of this video game was the inspiration for 07Beach in designing the interior of the ramen "Kaishin No Ichigeki," Japan.

With a simple combination of shapes and material ingredients, 07Beach has managed to shape this ramen restaurant into a unique space that can only be found in "Kaishin No Ichigeki." In particular, 07Beach designed the walls of the restaurant with a wavy noodle-like pattern to show the identity of the ramen dishes sold at this restaurant. "The pattern would be easier to spot if it was farther away, but it could lower the overall aesthetic, so something like a checkerboard motif abstracted to give a little curiosity and flavor," explains the architect.

Another unique detail is presented in the placement of ramen seasonings. His clients wanted to avoid placing condiments in the table area because he thought it would make the table a mess. Another idea from his client he wanted to add a drawer to store all the spices in it. In response to his client's wishes, 07Beach decided to display a condiment that looked as if it were part of an item you could get in the video game, so 07Beach placed it on a pedestal that looked like a pixelated block. "It's strange that the placement of this seasoning makes the interior look much better," 07Beach said.

Complementing the feel of eating ramen, 07Beach designed a seating area on the floor and eat ramen at a low table. The design is designed to look like a playing case with a raised floor and low walls as a space barrier. In this area, 07Beach combines wood and white ceramic materials designed into a short table. The green carpet that evokes the atmosphere combined with the white tiles looks unique with its combination and shape.

Moving into a public area, 07Beach presents round legs on geometric seats that become noise in interior design consisting only of squares and straight lines. In this area, 07Beach has decided on the main design direction. Overall a collection of designs with details in each of its elements can be presented in totality and look attractive.
