WeWork co-working recruits Studio Shanghai Linehouse to transform a former opium factory with green-painted metal and pastel-colored terrazo.

WeWork Weihai is located in Jing'An District, Shanghai. The building has an area of ​​5,500 square meters and can accommodate more than 1,300 members of WeWork—a partner company that offers rented workspaces at relatively low costs, with shared facilities for workers.

Previously it was an abandoned 20th-century building and local studio Linehouse completely revamped it to create a grand hotel-like space that was historically referred to as an opium shop, and later as an artist's residence.

“Linehouse celebrates the grandeur of the building, encapsulating the ambiance of a grand hotel, taking guests and members on a journey of imagination, voyeurism, and unexpected feasting.” the studio said.

The renovation started with repainting all the existing steel structures and the stairs connecting the main circulation room in ivy green. Then the oak-lined staircase in the prismatic flat is painted blue to create a gradient of tones from natural wood to blue.

The two pantry areas on this floor are covered with hand-painted gold poppy floral wallpaper as a reference to the opium factory.

Terrazzo walls are used to partition parts of the area in the open space. A bench with a dark blue pillow slot becomes one area, while a brown leather sofa fills the corner of the room. Wooden tables of various shapes complete the room with dark blue hard sell chairs.
