Spherifications Installations, Interactive Installations Formed in Science Knowledge
Conjuntos Empáticos is a non-profit association known for its characteristic work that often blends works of art with science. At the Festival La Nit de l'Art, Conjuntos Empáticos presented the "Spherifications Installation," a public installation made of foil. The event was held in June 2022 at the Plaza de Carmelita, Altea, Spain.

"Spherification" in science is one of the sciences found in molecular gastronomy, where this process produces a gel-shaped surface. From the results of this research, Conjuntos Empáticos designed the "Spherifications Installation" with a shape and material that resembles a gel. However, the presence of a dense gel surface poses a new problem for Conjuntos Empáticos. In response to this problem, Conjuntos Empáticos thought of a solution to produce an interactive public installation.

The result is a clover leaf-shaped installation with reflective foil material programmed through an industrial fan. The program works through an industrial fan that conducts wind through a hose to the inner chamber, producing fluid so that the foil can develop like a child’s balloon house toy.

When visitors enter the installation, visitors invited to feel the gel-like bending surface limited by the reflective texture of the foil. It is a space to sit while enjoying the clear sky. In addition, in this installation, Conjuntos Empáticos presents a new space experience, where visitors can look into the outer area of the installation without being seen inside. Visitors can feel this when inside the installation because of the transparent roof that can penetrate the view of the installation area.
Conjuntos Empáticos' Spherifications installation has resulted in an interactive public installation by combining scientific knowledge and space programs that wow festival-goers.
