Hermès “Looking for Lightness” Against Gravity at Milan Design Week 2022
After the 6th day of being held, Milan Design Week has finished being held on 12 June 2022 in the La Pelota industrial area, Brera Milan. Many international brands are also enlivening this annual design exhibition, one of which is Hermès. This year, Hermès has four see-through installations on display in the La Pelota event space. This installation is called “looking for lightness”.
Hermes artistic directors Charlotte Macaux Perelman and Alexis Fabry built these four see-through installations with concepts that try to play with geometry and light and try to find a balance between color and materials. As a result, these four volumes emit light that appears against a dark background. Thus, these installations can be analogized as objects or media where visitors can feel the "urge" to discover what is inside, colorful light as if calling them to enter and dissolve with what is "stored" in the installation.

When entering the installation through a small door, visitors will find a variety of household items such as chair decorations, tableware, and fabrics. All of these items are arranged and positioned in such a way as to represent “lightness in the object design” which is in line with the theme of Milan Design Week 2022.

This installation design features a shape resembling a water tower, with a unique wooden pattern. Simple and captivating is shown through the hidden interaction of textures, materials, colors, and transparency. The materials used also include porcelain, leather furniture, and cashmere—one of Hermes' favorites. “Looking for lightness” is shown through gravity-defying light and is expressed through the creation of objects for the home represented by four installations.
