Grid Lines Boundary Pavilion: An Extension to Gravity Café
With pandemic conditions still shrouded, open space integrated with the environment is still a "necessity" to complete a site or stand single on a land. It's the same with the Grid Lines Boundary Pavilion, an extension to its main building program (Gravity Café) built in outdoors with maximum openness.

As an additional space that complements and supports the program functions of its main building, the 85-square-meter pavilion is made of a sturdy and weatherproof steel structure. Located in the area of Khon Kaen University, Thailand, the new pavilion occupies the front yard of this café to facilitate various outdoor activities that support the main activities of the café. Like a place to relax, exhibition hall, photography, and other activities.

Because standing in the middle of the yard with shady trees, the design of this pavilion is based on the idea of keeping the existing trees intact and growing. As a result, a rectangular pavilion with three points is bordered by chain curtains to respond the presence of surrounding trees.

Grid Lines Boundary Pavilion is built using a steel structure and iron chain curtains that serve as a barrier for the pavilion as well as being an element of decorating the outdoor area. While on the roof, it is arranged by a steel pipe structure and paranet material that covers the entire pavilion area. According to SIM Studio, paranet was chosen because it can control sunlight, so it is suitable for use in outdoor areas to extend the life of its structure.

SIM Studio added a concrete bench surrounding the pavilion and a round-iron table in front of it to accommodate guests who want to drink coffee outdoors. In the inner area of the pavilion, curved steel doors are placed to become an attraction. This door was deliberately arranged by the team to describe the connection between the new and old contexts.
Grid Lines Boundary Pavilion adds a new character to a café. With a contemporary form, this pavilion can create adequate harmony for a café shop.
