Italy is one of the countries in Europe whose people love cycling. Data shows that around 5 million Italians cycle every year, and this number continues to increase. The first bicycle station in Bergamo was designed by Studio Capitanio. The station, called Bicity Velostazione, sits on an area of 200 sqm with the capacity of 132 bicycles. The station area consists of 2 levels that use a hydraulic system. As a station used by the public, Bicity Velostazione Bergamo is accessible every day, from 5 am to 12 pm local time.

In addition to its main function as a bicycle station for citizens and tourists, Bicity Velostazione aims to integrate new contemporary elements in the development of the city square, as well as being a center for substitution between modes of transport such as walking, cycling, and public transport.

Strategically located, the bike station is close to the historic center and Porta Sud railway station. Bicity Velostazione Bergamo is managed by the FIAB Association of the Pedalopolis of Bergamo in accordance with the provisions of the 'Cooperation Agreement between the Municipality of Bergamo and the FIAB Association of the Pedalopolis of Bergamo for the management and maintenance of assets used for cycling'. The facility was built with the financial support of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and was inaugurated in March 2022.

The building uses a fabricated steel frame lacquered in white, with a modular structural system so that each material can be reused, recycled, or disassembled for reuse elsewhere. The entrance to the parking station is designed automatically with a revolving door to facilitate access for users.

Combined with a transparent glass facade, this parking facility stands out among the surrounding buildings and landscape. The glass material is a source of natural lighting that spreads to all sides of the station, so that at night Bicity Velostazione will shine like a lantern. On the roof, there are photovoltaic panels as energy storage which can then be used for all facilities at this station.

With the presence of Bicity Velostazione, Bergamo residents and tourists who mobilize every day by cycling will be greatly helped. Not only that, Studio Capitanio's innovation in this project also encourages public order in transportation, creates a neat urban layout, and reduces carbon emissions through independent energy processing and materials used
