Surakarta Design Fest 2024: The First Festival Design in City

In Surakarta City itself, it is quite rare to find an event that raises topics around architecture and design. As a breath of fresh air this year for the first time Surakarta Design Fest is present where this event is a celebration of architecture and design in Surakarta City which is planned to be held every two years in the future. Held from 18 to 26 October 2024. Carrying the theme LIVE/ABLE, based on Surakarta City itself which has had a very high appeal in recent years, thus providing positive growth for the development of architecture and design in this city.

Presenting a series of varied event programs such as exhibitions, design live, talk series and pods series. The exhibition contains mockups of works from each architect and designer from several cities in Indonesia. The exhibition will be spread across six coffee shop locations in the city of Surakarta, namely Loske Coffee Service, Pixel Coffee, Sekutu Rumah Karya, Tetra Coffee & Eatery, Loske Cafe and Sekutu Kopi. Design live is a program that will invite you to get to know more closely the selected architectural objects or studios in the city of Surakarta by getting explanations from architects and designers directly. Some of them are the Saminah Sihyadi Mosque (JOSO Architects), Rumah Keluarga Ayam (deesignhandmade), timtiga Studio (timtiga), ConArch Studio (ConArch Studio), Museum Making Cars (Vanni Yuana Architects). The talk series itself is a talk show series that raises different topics and speakers from across countries. The speakers consisted of Novriansyah Yakub (Atelier Riri), Willis Kusuma (Willis Kusuma Architects), Kevin Mark Low (smallprojects), Budiman Hendropurnomo (DCM Jakarta), Thoat Fauzi (JOSO Architects), Joko Haryanto (timtiga), Adityo Gayuh (CDS Indonesia), and Prasetyoadi (PDW Architects). Organized for the pods series later in the form of discussions will be broadcast publicly on the Anakata Media youtube channel during the 3-day series of events. Surakarta Design Fest also collaborated with painters from Surakarta City, namely Faisal Al Farouq and Imanullah, which was named "Jalar” Exhibition. The Surakarta Design Fest event is supported by IAI Surakarta, IAI Central Java, HDII Central Java and HDII Surakarta and is also sponsored by Roman Granit, Estica, Zipblind, Platinum Ceramics, Owens Indonesia and Utama Bintang.
