XStudio Preserving Guanarteme's History through the Naked House

March 18, 2022

A unique house located in Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain has been completed by XStudio. This city is one of the cities with an uncontrollable growth rate because most of its residents are historical workers from Guanarteme. As a result, this expansion is changing the urban fabric around which large buildings are built with simple houses built by themselves.

Interior of the Naked HouseThis project was born from that background. Previously, this building was an old house which finally intervened as an opportunity to change the style and way of life. This is to balance the historical context and the original architectural culture of the area which will be the main guideline in the design process.

The building accommodates a design studio on the ground floor, housing on the first floor, and a recreation area on the roof. The material used is material that is affordable in terms of cost and function, this is done to save facilities and economy but still pay attention to the interior side.

Design team approached it by working from sections, where they restored and scaled the page into free space that was easy to manage later. The visible gap is also enlarged so that it connects the visuals and allows the interior of the house to be seen. In the same way, buildings open from above through skylights that are inserted and form a connection with the exterior. Direct your gaze to the sky and maximize the natural light that enters.

Interior walls are made with concrete slabs that are left bare without finishing which preserves the history of the building. In this way, concrete slabs, slim-lime bricks, and load-bearing precisely form a new landscape that incorporates a raw finish. Uniquely, the incoming sunlight will affect the texture of the material so that it can look different depending on the amount of light that enters.

As for the elements and complements, the team used specially made pine wood for the furniture and details to harmonize the material to make it look more natural and contrasting. While the wet area uses micro cement and trowel concrete for the pavement.
