Boca de Agua: A Sustainable Hospitality Structure
A hospitality building was built at the intersection of ecosystem preservation and the well-being environment. Located in the green landscape of Bacalar, this hospitality building is named Boca de Agua which was designed by architect Frida Escobedo. Boca de Agua was built upon the desire to minimize the construction footprint by applying minimal intervention to its site.

Boca de Agua contains several treehouses built on wooden pillars that float above the ground. This allows the ground beneath them to breathe undisturbed. The treehouses are constructed using wood for both the structural and complement materials. The stripped wooden blocks cover the entire façade to create a seamless connection with the outdoors. They also help blur the unseen boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces. Inside the treehouses, the scent of natural wood fills the whole space and presents a serene atmosphere.

The commitment to creating a sustainable building is also drawn through the use of locally sourced materials including the furniture. The furniture was designed by local craftsmen that reflect Mexican craftsmanship. This makes Boca de Agua contribute to give positive impact the society, the local economy, and the natural environment. It also provides a peaceful place where guests can connect with nature and experience living in the middle of heavy trees.
