Decentraland's First Metaverse Fashion Week
Decentraland, a virtual reality platform launched Metaverse Fashion Week from March 24 to 27, 2022. This event is a digital fashion week showcasing new clothing collections in the metaverse. The brands participating in this fashion week include The Fabricant, Dolce & Gabbana, Hugo Boss, Auroboros, and others.

For four-day Metaverse Fashion Week will feature a series of runway shows, afterparties, and pop-up shops with various digital clothing brands wearing avatars walking down virtual catwalks. This event takes place by implementing a free system for anyone, different from the usual fashion week that only allows the guests to attend. Therefore, users only need to log in to the browser-based platform by Decentraland.

“Metaverse Fashion Week (MVFW) is accessible to anyone and everyone around the world. This is to eliminate the audience limit of who wants to watch the show, so it's not just for guests. You just need a computer and internet connection to watch this fashion week,” said Giovanna Casimiro, head of Metaverse Fashion Week

In addition, the users can also scan a QR code to view the rendered item before using their funds in the crypto wallet to purchase the item as a non-fungible token (NFT). Then, the purchased NFT can be worn by avatars and some can be traced back as physical version items in collaboration with the Boson Protocol brand platform.

The Fabricant has showcased their superior designs like the Hemdrok Jacket and Nehalennia Drop suit. The brand has also invited participants to submit their redesigns from The Fabricant's Season 1 series. Participants' creativity will be tested then six winning creations will be selected through public voting to appear on runway shows.

Amber Jae Slooten, a co-founder of The Fabricant, revealed that virtual fashion shows will become a trend in the future because traditional fashion weeks are no longer necessary. She considers the traditional fashion week to harm the climate, therefore a virtual fashion week is an effort by the fashion industry to reduce the impact on the environment.

Furthermore, Decentraland called its fashion week a “first” in the metaverse. The event was closed with digital fashion brand Auroboros auctioning its digital collection, Biomimicry, as a series in NFT.
