Arrangement of Plywood Boards in Peak A Boo Installation
In the middle of the historical grounds for the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Fair, the i/thee studio and a group of Texas Tech University students teamed up on a Peak-A-Boo Installation project. The installation was built as part of the infrastructure in the Bindy Bazaar forest and is the second phase of the development of the art and architecture festival in Bethel, New York.

"Conceptually, the project aims to bridge fraught binaries between analog and digital production modes; the structure was designed using computational digital tools and analyses but was constructed primarily by hand tools in-situ," said studio i/thee.

The design process of Peak-A-Boo Installation starts with designing several installation models and choosing the basic materials that fit the concept and site. Then, after establishing the model and the material, design analysis is carried out to create dynamism between the model, its structure, material, and site. Finally, from the analysis results, the team formed a corrugated installation using sixty sheets of plywood and wooden blocks as the structure.

The construction of the Peak A-Boo Installation takes approximately two weeks to complete. The construction starts with cutting large wooden blocks divided into 180 parts, then put back together according to the design form using special wood glue to form a curved substructure.

Next, plywood boards are installed on top of the curved substructure by hooking the boards using screws and nails to maximize the strength of their structure. In the middle of the forest, the Peak A Boo Installation structure is arranged following the presence of existing trees. Some of the wooden boards that compose are cut in the middle to the diameter of the traversed tree trunk.

The result is a wooden structure capable of creating various spatial experiences through its curved shape. Peak-A-Boo Installation seems to be the festival stage that marks the event's main point. Inside this installation, visitors are free to do what they want, from dancing with leaf shadows from trees to playing and even singing.
