The New Features Added to the Shiroiya Hotel
Located in Maebashi, the Capital of Gunma Province, Japan, Shiroiya Hotel with its unique green tower design, seves not only as a relaxing place for tourists but also seves as a cultural heritage witnessing the city's growth and development.

Has been standing since the '70s, this hotel is renovated by Sou Fujimoto. This hotel consists of two main components, namely the 'Heritage Tower' and the 'Green Tower'. The 'Heritage Tower', the refurbished building, occupies the hotel's reception area, restaurant, and lounge on the ground floor while the guest rooms are on the upper floors. A large atrium is graced with crisscrossing concrete beams and filled with natural light that enters through the skylights.

Several staircases are arranged in particular way, creating a spatial experience on every level which replicates the experience of moving through the city. The installation called Lighting Pipes by Argentinian artist Leandro Erlich, adorns the atrium's ceiling

The extension of the building, the 'Green Tower', is a hill covered in greeneries with a typical view of the area on the banks of the Tone River, which is in the form of small hills. Several small cabins sit on the hill connected by the brick staircases, presenting unique and different experience on every turn. Meanwhile, the facade is graced with the artwork of Lawrence Weiner and Hiroshi Sugimoto to add the aestethic beauty to the building.
