Recycled Materials Construct Pizza 4P’s Lotte Mall West Lake

Pizza 4P’s opened at Lotte Mall West Lake Phú Thượng, Vietnam in 2023. The restaurant by ODDO architects appears with frames and lattices.

To be looked at closely, the design shows a “contrasting spirit” through many features. The design combines the formality of a shopping center and the informality of Hanoi’s buzzing streets. The restaurant generally consists of an indoor area in a modern mall building and an outdoor area with natural and traditional elements. Inside the mall’s massive structure, all woven panels are traditionally handcrafted.

Pizza 4P’s was designed using many recycled materials, by ODDO architects’ principles that focus on sustainability. It ranges from broken porcelain plates, old restaurant staff uniforms, and beer bottles to wood and metal for walls, floors, partitions, and curtains. The floor consists of terrazzo tiles made from a mixture of terracotta pieces and stone. In addition, the decorative elements were made from recycled plastic bags and traditional Do paper. Not only does the application of recycled materials emphasize commitment to sustainability, but it also adds aesthetic value.

The team also tries to maintain the essence of local traditions. Various elements are local, such as bamboo and rattan, crafted by local craftsmen. The local bamboo and rattan were installed as the ceilings, fixed at different heights, resulting in varying levels of intimacy.

The restaurant’s outer boundary is defined by the water pond and aquaponics systems that irrigate the indoor and outdoor plants. The system helps the room's cooling capacity while providing an interesting experience alongside nature amid a rapidly changing urban environment.
