NIEL Project by MIV Architects

This is a renovation project of a housing unit in a mini-cluster of a housing estate. With an existing building length of 11 m and a building width of 5.4 m on a land plot with a size of 21 m x 5.4 m. The client's goal to renovate his house, besides the additional need for space, is also to maximize the function of the space so that a small house can seem more spacious.

The concept of a "compact tropical house" was chosen as the basis for thinking in designing this project, by maximizing the space requirements and functions in it so that all activities can be well accommodated and maximize air circulation and access to natural lighting into the space. Several efforts have been made to maximize natural energy in homes with limited space, namely by making void openings in the living room area which has a transparent roof and ventilation below it so that hot air from below can rise and exit upwards.

In addition, with the excess land behind, a separate mass is created specifically for the kitchen so that there is an open space between the family room and the kitchen room so that lighting and ventilation can reach the maximum to the family room and kitchen area. There is a fan that circulates the air more smoothly to keep the air cool without having to use air conditioning.

There are 3 rooms with 2 rooms that have bathrooms in them with different mood nuances with the same concept. Space requirements are also maximized by having a balcony for client activities with guests in front of the house on the 2nd floor which also functions as the roof of the carport below.
