Luxottica’s Transparent Crystal Headquarters in Milan

December 18, 2024

Park Associati designed Luxottica Headquarters building in Milan, Italy. A building that forms like a translucent crystal layer in 2022 with a total building area of 4500 m². The building is located in the center of historical buildings making it a contrast among others.  Its iconic design, designed to complement Luxottica's office building through an innovative visual experience and spatial arrangement, harmonizes with the Milanese context.

Its presence is invisible as it stands individually in the center of Luxottica's office, obscured by Luxottica's previous office building. Nonetheless, the building utilizes double-glazed glass innovation through boldness to create a subtle relationship with the surrounding context. It does not weaken the architectural and environmental elements but instead becomes a new addition that enhances the city's atmosphere.

Traditional Milanese courtyards inspire the concept of outdoor space arrangement. The arrangement of open spaces is organized according to their needs and connections with nature.

The building’s interior aims to convey tradition, innovation, and elegance. Atrium as the main space is towering along with slender columns creating a grand yet intimate impression. The interior arrangement combines wood, Venetian-style terrazzo, and Italian stone (Beola gneiss) to create elegance.

A key innovation that plays a major role in the building’s sustainability is the use of a double-glazed glass facade that provides thermal and visual comfort. The use of glass not only optimizes visual relationship between inside and outside spaces but also maximizes lighting that affects users’ well-being. The building’s facade is slender, resulting in a visual that seems to be knitted into the inner space. A similar visual is present in the furniture design.

Although the building stands individually in contrasting modernity, it remains in harmony with its surroundings. The building's innovative design and high-quality materials enhance the city's ambiance and are almost a blueprint for architectural works that unite aesthetics and function
