The pavilion concept is at the heart of the idea of balance. The essential elements in the design of the boat are stability and efficiency. This idea goes beyond the physical structure to represent a vision of the future where sustainability, innovation, and harmony are key to national growth. The towering form of the pavilion further embodies the pride of a nation that continues to advance while remaining true to its cultural roots.
Indonesia’s commitment to environmental sustainability is reflected in the pavilion built using environmentally friendly materials, primarily plana wood, an innovative composite made from a composition of 60% rice husk, 30% recycled plastic and 10% additives. The choice of materials is in line with the 10R principles: Rethink, Retrieve Energy, Reorganize, Replace, Reduce, Recycle, Reuse, Replant, Recover, and Repair, focusing on emphasizing the country’s dedication to minimizing environmental impact. In addition, the pavilion is designed to maximize natural lighting. By utilizing renewable and recycled resources, the Indonesian Pavilion highlights its message of sustainable development in harmony with nature.

The boat motif is a strong cultural symbol rooted in Indonesian history. Boats have long been an important means of transportation for connecting communities, supporting trade activities, and shaping daily life throughout the archipelago. To that end, the pavilion design serves as a bridge between Indonesia's past and aspirations for the future, aiming to represent Indonesia's journey at Expo 2025 Osaka, which will take place from April 13 to October 13, 2025.
