52-year-old Residential Graced with Redwood Interior

Studio Terpeluk has renovated a two-story residence that has stood since 1970 in one of the areas in San Francisco. This renovation project aims to increase the volume of the house so that its spaces can maximize function to embody the needs of its residents.

In the renovation, their client wanted to retain the original features of the building that had been its identity for approximately 52 years, such as geometric angles, interiors dominated by redwoods, and exterior courtyards.

Then, Studio Terpeluk realizes all the client's wants and needs by opening up circulation and adding new volumes at the top level. Previously, this building had an area of 210 square meters, but the volume increase of renovations has changed the area to 299 square meters.

With the addition of new volumes in the building, residences that were initially only able to accommodate the main needs of residents such as the master bedroom, kitchen, and lounge are now able to facilitate support needs, such as work areas, media rooms, bars to guest bedrooms.

Studio Terpeluk explained this renovation project focuses on space needs and seeks to provide a visual experience to clients. Therefore, Studio Terpeluk chose a material that can provide new colors in its interior to balance the aesthetics of redwood.

As a result, the interior design of this house appears with textured redwood as the main material. In addition, terrazzo and gray marble materials further add to the aesthetics and softness of the house interior. Meanwhile, soft-textured, brightly colored firwood floors are arranged to balance the dark redwood.

Not only that, the collection of pink sculptures by a Chinese artist placed in front of the entrance and some paintings, became the decorating elements of the space that perfected the beauty of redwood.
