Parisian Studio: Uchronia as Emerging Architecture & Interiors Studio
As the design industry, especially architecture and interior design, develops, more and more design studios are emerging and trying to display various unique types. Uchronia is a multidisciplinary design collective that is more than just a classic architecture firm based in Paris. It was founded by Julien Sebban, who was inspired by the concept of a free and creative world, which prompted him to establish Uchronia. The works produced by this studio have certain characteristics, with dynamic interactions between bright colors, wavy shapes, and eclectic designs that bring a cheerful nuance.

The name of the Uchronia studio is a neologism created by the 19th-century French philosopher Charles de Renouvier, intended to reflect his diverse, dynamic, and ever-evolving works. Uchronia specializes in transforming spaces into immersive and experiential environments and provides various services that include architecture, interior design, and visual identity. This design studio has worked on various projects, including restaurants, apartments, and fashion shows.
Uchronia has had a strong impact since its inception. Each of their projects has a strong sense of identity, confidently blending contemporary design language with a touch of retro style. Consistently applying bold colors, striking patterns, irregular shapes, and wavy lines, they have a cheerful and energetic feel to their renowned restaurant projects and residential and retail spaces.

Uchronia’s projects include Forest Marseille, a seaside restaurant designed to encapsulate the “warmth and authenticity” of the South of France. The restaurant is filled with a rich palette of clay, ochre, and terracotta and decorated with lime-moulded decorations, glazed bricks, olive-coloured timber formwork, and starfish wall lights.

Uchronia studio has designed a series of Parisian coffee shops, Café Nuances, which are characterised by their vibrant, retro-futuristic interiors. Each coffee shop has its own distinctive identity but all share common characteristics, such as saturated colours, rigid, striped shapes, and stainless steel worktops. In the design of Café Nuances, Uchronia studio has set itself apart from most existing coffee shops, creating a “dreamy” atmosphere.
