The Classic SOMESOME Bar and Restaurant with Curved Decorations

MARS Studio has designed a classic restaurant called SOMESOME Bar and Restaurant. In designing this restaurant, MARS Studio holds the vision to create a dining experience with a modern-classic atmosphere that does not forget the artistic side. The concept is realized in a space that presents a spatial experience between warmth and intimacy through a wide semi-outdoor spectrum.

Located among the bustling retail neighborhoods of Taikoo Li Sanlitun, China, SOMESOME Bar and Restaurant is designed to be a place to soothe the mind and "save yourself" from the crowded urban area. Therefore, the team deliberately designed this restaurant to be able to accommodate a large number of guests but its privacy is maintained. MARS Studio then borrowed the shape of a "cocoon" as a thick shell that seemed to protect the entire wall of the restaurant.

When entering the inner area of the restaurant, the visitor's eyes will be drawn to the large window that can be fully opened. When that window is opened slowly, the space will turn into a thin frame featuring crisscrossing arches. The existence of this window can provide an outdoor view while maintaining air circulation in the room.

Complementing the dining room needs of the restaurant, MARS Studio divides the dining room layout into two areas, an open area and a private area centered on a small bar. The bar area is designed to be a place for sharing in the middle of an intimate atmosphere. Through dark brown tones, MARS Studio presents an intimate atmosphere that seems to bring guests to be immersed in their thoughts. The presence of greenery in the room helps the living to cool his mind from the hustle and bustle of the city.

According to MARS Studio, adding a unique element to the cognitive experience helps a person to keep remembering it. The reps of the curved elements in the main dining area produce a rhythmic tempo, creating the effect of endlessly moving through the entrance passage. Simultaneously, the richness of the curved lines almost scattered all over the ceiling of the restaurant ignited the curiosity of the guests, so they were moved to explore the room in depth.

When guests move freely with hidden curiosity and end when they have found themselves at the right destination with the nuances that match expectations, they are then free to decide where to spend time, whether in an open-air dining area or a private dining area. On one side of the private dining area, two mirrors try to deceive the eyes of the guests to further uncover the layers of space through the illusion of infinite travel.

"The curved surface acts as a key mediator of an identic urban strategy throughout the restaurant interior. If straight lines and flat surfaces follow an orthogonal coordinate system reflecting the ideology of rationality, then curved surfaces include diverse meanings." It was clear to MARS Studio in its decision to feature a curved surface.

SOMESOME Bar and Restaurant has managed to create curiosity for guests through the arched entrance hallway that becomes a tipping point between solid and empty, open and private.
