IMAGINE PEACE: Yoko Ono's Invitation of Peace to the Whole World
IMAGINE PEACE departs from the work of John Lennon and Yoko Ono as peace activists in 1969 when they staged a non-violent protest against war titled Bed-in. The action was carried out 2 weeks after they returned from their honeymoon, in this action they called on both of them to commit to social justice.
Berlin
The project initiated by Yoko Ono was in collaboration with CIRCA a public art installation and Serpentine. This new global intervention was shown across the world's most prominent digital screens; London, Los Angeles, Milan, Berlin, Melbourne, New York, Seoul, and Tokyo every night throughout March 2022.
London
Born as an effort to uphold social justice, uphold human values, and anti-violence campaigns. Yoko Ono displayed the text “IMAGINE PEACE love, Yoko 2022” on a white background and black fonts that contrast with the street situation around the screen so people who are passing by can see the message conveyed.
Melbourne
In addition, Yoko Ono also took part in donating humanitarian crisis assistance through the sale of limited edition prints. 100% of the income collected is donated to the National Unity Emergency Fund (UNCERF). This effort is a form of concern and seriousness in responding to various events that have recently occurred.
Milan
Yoko Ono's party is well aware that whatever they do will become the subject of public discussion. Therefore, they decide to take advantage of the space or installation they will occupy by attracting people's attention through a peace advertisement. In addition, there are also physical prints that are produced for sale which are called 'peace'.
Newyork
“To sell a product, you need a gimmick. So we think of 'bed' as a gimmick because the bed is the easiest way to do it. After all, we are lazy”.
Seoul
The declaration of peace marks the uke legend's return to London's Piccadilly Circus, twenty years after he put up a poster that read "Imagine all the people living in peace".
