Louis Vuitton facade design

In the renovation project of the Louis Vuitton store in Stinye Park, Istanbul, Seçkin Pirim was commissioned to give an aesthetic touch to the façade of the building, assisted by Salih Küçüktuna, who in compiling the integration system of the façade with the structure of the store building.

For Seçkin Pirim, this project was his first experience designing the façade of a building. Not very familiar with the technicalities of creating the façade, the 45-year-old artist chose to focus on what he mastered. Thus, the concept of 'sculpture that can be entered' was applied to change the store's façade. Seçkin Pirim wanted the store's look transformed into a sculpture like his other works. However, since there are several things to note in designing the façade, such as the direction of sunlight, visual access, and the level of privacy, Seçkin Pirim tried to take a slightly different approach from his habits.

The façade is built using asymmetrically perforated marble slabs in various sizes. Within a predetermined level, the marble slabs were then arranged to form a layer similar to the 'Damier' pattern, typical of the Louis Vuitton brand. Thus, the façade that was formed still showed the shop's identity without compromising the distinctive features of the sculptures by Seçkin Pirim.

Meanwhile, the matter of forming and installing the completed façade became the task of Salih Küçüktuna. He carried out modeling of structures that would help the realization of the façade of the building. In addition, Salih Küçüktuna also played a role in deciding the system of integration of the façade with the space program.

Ultimately, the Louis Vuitton store in Stinye Park can connect with the local urban context thanks to its artistic and attractive façade. The final result follows what Salih Küçüktuna and Seçkin Pirim believe that the façade of a building must be able to become a medium for collaboration between artists, architects, and the public. That way, the development of the surrounding culture can continue to run.

With its new facade, the Louis Vuitton store in Stinye Park, Istanbul, proves that local culture is constantly evolving
