The Charming Black House by Nicolas CRUZ Arquitectos
A house with a fairly challenging site location stands on a slope in the mountains of Pupuya, Chile. With an area of 30m x 280m wide, the architects use the land without changing its natural contours. Despite its difficult site conditions, there is an extraordinary landscape view on the site which is then well-spent by Nicolas CRUZ arquitectos to explore its site potential.

In order to maximize the space program with the challenging site conditions, S House was divided into four parts with two masses. These two masses of buildings are distinguished by private and public space which are connected by the primary access from the entrance. The four sections are the entrance and garage section, the public and rooftop section, while the private part is the bedroom, family room, and kitchen, as well as the terrace and outdoor gathering room. All of these rooms are connected by the circulation located between the two mass compositions.

Besides the challenging site conditions, Nicolas CRUZ arquitectos designed this house with steel as the main structural material, with adjustments to the height of the stage poles to maximize the site's potential. In addition, architects also present maximum comfort and safety for the users by using wood and glass materials. The wooden material was chosen to present a warm atmosphere inside the house and connect the residents with the natural environment. Meanwhile, the glass material removes the boundary between the building and the surroundings which also provides abundant light and optimum air circulation throughout the house. Making it not only a perfect place to stay and relax but also enhances the connection with the environment.
