The Red Sea Project, one of Saudi Arabia’s giga-projects, invites a renowned British architect, Foster + Partners to help envision the realization of this mega project. Was involved in the Red Sea Airport and the Southern Dunes, Foster + Partners then flourished the Red Sea project and attracted the world’s attention through its bloomy design.

As part of Saudi Arabia’s 2030 vision plan, the Red Sea project was launched in 2017 and is planned to be completed in 2030. Foster + Partners themselves are involved in the design of the Southern Dunes which is a new luxury resort, setting to become a new destination for global tourists. It embodies Saudi Arabia’s amazing desert landscape and its stunning natural biodiversity.

Adorned with a distinct flower-shaped canopy, the entrance to the Southern Dunes presents an enchanting view of the spectacular setting where the dunes meet the mountains. This place is also surrounded by various local species of flora to help cool the space naturally. The spectacular lightweight, rope-clad petals welcome every visitor and invite them to explore more hidden luxurious facilities inside. It includes luxurious hotel rooms that offer a breathtaking view of the dunes and the mountains.

The resort also features 40 mountain villas which are carefully placed across the site. All of them are topped with lightweight roofs that represent the wavy surface of the dunes and Saudi's traditional tents. The structures also have been carefully planned to minimize environmental impact.

Meanwhile, the new Red Sea Airport offers a memorable experience for passengers to explore the natural form of the desert, the green oasis, and the sea from the moment they arrive. The design of the terminal is aimed to bring the experience of a private aircraft terminal to every traveler through its small and intimate spaces that are luxurious and personalized.
An internal green oasis with an indigenously planted garden forms a green focus, creating a relaxed, resort-like atmosphere within the airport terminal. Upon arrival, passengers follow the natural spatial flow down through the lush oasis landscape towards the Welcome Centre, where they are met and welcomed to the Red Sea Resort. Not only presenting a distinctive airport design, this airport will also be powered by 100 % renewable energy which makes it a sustainable public transformation building.
Having been going for seven years of construction, the Red Sea Airport and the Southern Dunes have shown great progress and will be ready to unveil their beauty once they’ve been completed.
