Tiny Igloo Made of Recycled Foam in "Winter Bedroom" by Takk
Mireia Luzárraga and Alejandro Muiño–local Spanish studio Takk founders built a “hideout” for their daughter. Fluffy white fabrics seem to decorate the interior of a child's bedroom which suggests a “winter” theme in a house located in Barcelona.
Takk creates an igloo-shaped bedroom for their daughter
This is a self-contained structure designed to resemble an igloo, except that it is a mini version of the igloo with a 3.5m high dome that tapers to a narrow entrance on one side. Takk admitted that this project is part of a series of continuous and ongoing renovation programs for the warehouse space where the founders live.
The structure is made of wood and three layers of foam that coat the entire exterior
“The home workshop is a 400m2 space that can accommodate the installations of our design and manufacture,” says Luzárraga.
The project was called the “Winter Bedroom”. Most of the materials used to form this room are redesigns from previous Takk projects. These materials can be seen from the steel chain curtain that covers the entrance instead of the door, and the three layers of foam that cover the entire exterior and ceiling of the dome.

This artificial igloo structure is using a wooden structure with vertical and horizontal ribs, and foam sheets that serve several purposes. So, they had to maintain an all-white palette from the bedding to the details inside the igloo to provide extra warmth.
The foam was chosen and used as the main material because it is easy to shape into a round dome shape and guarantees warmth inside. Foam is the most flexible material and adapts easily to its surroundings, besides that, it is also easy to care for and is not harmful to small children because of its elastic and soft nature.
Fluffy white carpet dominates the tiny igloo interior
The interior space of the igloo has a height of about 90cm. Inside, there are mattresses, and the interior is completely covered with a fluffy white carpet, so you don't need to wear footwear when you enter. The mattress in the igloo is large enough so that underneath it can be used for storage, playing, and hiding. The ceiling-mounted round lights are designed to create the impression of stargazing.
