The ArtsEd performing arts school building was built in stages in the 1980s. Such a system makes this school, over time, have messy programming and learning spaces that are not up to standard. With these problems, the building owner then commissioned De Matos Ryan to redevelop and rearrange the spaces in this school and add new facilities to make it a cohesive unit of the building.

The project began by building a new volume arranged to accommodate three 5-meter-high dance studios, a classroom, and a large-scale rehearsal room. In the process, the team experienced problems, namely limited school land. After thinking of the right solution, De Matos Ryan decided to build a new volume in the front yard of the building that has stood for about 40 years.

Due to the location of the new volume, which occupies the front of the main building, a new façade was created to combine loops and curved openings reminiscent of musical notation and movement. The shape of this façade is designed using industrial profiled materials and specially ordered anodized aluminum panels to create a design that matches the drawing.

Connecting the two buildings, a new circulation is arranged along the rear elevation, so the old school building is fully accessible. In addition, the team added a small cavity with ventilation on the roof that serves as a separator between the old building and the new building while dampening noises from the activities of the interlocking students.

Entering the new dance studio, the team designed the interior with a touch of color psychology that created a cheerful atmosphere in the dancing room. White and yellow, these two colors are applied to symbolize the energy and cheerfulness of a dancer. In this studio, the team is also equipped with guardian super clear mirror attached to the wall to make it easier for dancers to follow the movements.

After successfully building a new volume with three floors that can accommodate the school's facilities, De Matos Ryan will continue the construction of the school by providing a new theater studio that conforms to the standards of a theater.
