The Hospitality Center | Megadbuka
In recent years Russia is experiencing the most important problem in its modern architectural design, namely the lack of a distinctive identity. Architects from Russia often imitate the peculiarities of contemporary design from other countries which causes Russian national culture to sink and just disappear. Many new designs are designed without realizing that it belongs to the national culture.

In response to this issue, the Moscow-based architectural bureau Megabudka conducted a study and from that research, they developed their vision of the New Russian Style. This architectural style is not simply created but is based on a rethinking of the cultural aspects and values inherent in the peculiarities of Russian architecture. This research was carried out with the participation of several modern designers and architects who were systematized to become the determinants of the new Russian design. This helps not to go beyond the flexible interpretation of the combination of two concepts: the avant-garde which represents international style, and the traditional style which is completely woodcut, pretentious, and exaggerated.

The first construction, built in the new Russian style according to Megabudka, is located in the Lipetsk region, on the territory of the Kudykina Gora Park. The Hospitality Center building complex is one of the projects that is part of a major transformation of design ideas into the new Russian style. The building is located at the starting point of the circular route in the park and consists of separate beams of varying heights. The volume of this building forms a facade inspired by the streets of the old town. Each volume also has its own function.

The facade of this building is made of black ebony. Black which depicts the color of the boards burning under the sun is a color that truly characterizes Russian wooden architecture. The shape of the building that has a large volume also blends well into the landscape, be it in winter or summer. In winter the black color will provide a real contrast to the white snow pile, while in the warm season it can blend with the color of the tree trunks scattered in the forest around the building.
